New England gardening tips to learn rose gardening

Can I grow roses indoors?

People frequently ask if they can grow potted rose plants indoors. The answer is: "Maybe" and "It's a risky idea."  Roses need high humidity and a lot of direct sunlight. If you use air conditioning you most likely don't have high humidity that roses need.  Even if you do not use air condition, New England summers may not be hot and humid enough.

Of course, feel free to experiment. If you have a sun porch that gets warmer in the summer that might be a good place to try.  People who live in a hot, steamy area, and don't have air conditioning, could probably get away with it as long as you pick a sunny spot.

Out of all the rose varieties, miniature roses are the most likely to survive indoors. Miniature roses are real roses that have been bred to grow into small, compact plants with small flowers. They do quite well in pots and are certainly pretty.

So, go ahead and experiment. Have fun while you're at it! You may just discover a whole new type of rose gardening that suits your style.
